What high school subjects I have to be skilled in preparing for flight school?
I have the intention to take aviation after graduating from high school. So can anyone give me the list of secondary issues (with emphasis on the fields of mathematics) that I have to be an expert in what will be well equipped when I enroll in flight school? Thanks for the help!
Do not get me wrong, the more you learn, the better, but some people do not know any better feel you have to have a doctorate in physics to be a pilot and completely ignore the larger problems. This is my experience as a person who has played through its land commercial pilot. I know there are many YA airline pilots, which could give a more detailed response now mainly because ATP writing is concerned. The only math I suggest putting more emphasis on algebra and trigonometry. Actually most mathematics on the flight (En-route weather, fuel, etc.) to lower technology level is performed in an E6B. It takes about 15 minutes to learn the ropes and once you go private electronics can use it as a calculator. Large iron will fly flight team to handle all that for you. Trig is really only useful when executing drive speed check sans area navigation equipment (GPS, or LORAN intertial). Even then a) 99% of all speed mathematics in aviation can be done by either multiply or divide a number by 60 b) is much easier just to get a driver for speed reading of course, if you're talking to ATC. There are other formulas that require advanced trigonometry or the like, but really qualifies as good to know, but nothing than I ever would use mostly. While you have an average knowledge of mathematics, formulas that are taught (hence it would be nice to be decent in algebra), such as weight and balance change. For example, the fall of last reset in speed over the ground to get the distance that will fly in 6 minutes. Do not need a PhD to put a zero. Fuel consumption is X pounds / gallons per hour and my speed that I need to fly for hours Y. He pounds Z and X times Y is less than the Z and I have stil the FAA or the business requires plenty of reserve fuel, yup I'll get there. That's all pretty basic math. It would be nice to know some physics, but like everything, if they are decent science is taught to you and you will be able to put 2 and 2 together. Of course when you learn about P factor from the beginning would be good to know the applied force and support given RPM size and determine the effectiveness of the rudder and exact departure necessary, but in fact just keep your foot on the rudder and keep the pointed end run around the track. If offered focus on the weather, fluid dynamics, electronics, law and the garage. I'm not saying that skimping on mathematics or science, are important. Do not take the dummy math class, but do not take AP calc class at the expense of climate. You're much more likely to kill you do not know about the weather or mechanical reason for not knowing the drag lift. An explosion of micro going to ruin your day / Life if you do not know what conditions are in the same way, while none of the SA auto shop will not teach how a jet engine All engines sucking air, sucking in the fuel, compress the two, blow up and spit. The other three, so the air is essentially a liquid fuel is a liquid. You also need to know a decent bit of avionics, etc. Finally, the law seems strange, but if you get around to reading the FAR (And know too well) that would be good to know how to read lawyer to speak. Finally, I would urge you not to go to a university that offers degrees only aviation as suggested. While the person who suggested that it is very young and most certianly much more mature for their age than most, I ask you to take into account this. I've never seen an airline that is specified in mathematics or related sciences. Most commercial pilots I know have degrees in the liberal arts (English, political science and the like). They had no problem being hired by major airlines. On the other hand, if (and most drivers do) you fulroughed, how will you stay? Their hours of flight and aviation degree is practically worthless in the job market in general. Saw to obtain a degree in something other than aviation as a fall back. All airlines want is a 4 year degree, no matter what. A Again, I'm not hitting math or science, I'm just saying there are other issues that would be more relevant. Best of luck to you in the future.
